Q. My wax jacket is soiled how can I clean it? A. To remove the soiling we recommend sponging with cold water. Do not use soaps or detergents as these will affect the performance of the wax finish. Q. I've put my wax jacket into a washing machine to clean it and now all the wax has come off. What can I do? A. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done as the washing process strips all the wax finish from the cotton fabric. Any re-application of the wax coating will be totally absorbed by the cotton fabric and will soil the inner lining which, in turn, will soil any clothing worn underneath the jacket. Q. My wax jacket is an absolute rag, it's dropping to bits - but I've had it for years and it has tremendous sentimental value. Can you save it for me? A. Often these repairs will cost more than a new replacement and therefore we reserve the right to refuse the repair as we deem it to be "beyond cost effective repair" for the customer. More often than not our qualified inspectors will provide a quotation for essential repairs only and concentrate on areas of the jacket, which will retain the wind and waterproof qualities. For example, replacing a zip or repairing a few holes and tears then finishing off with a reproof. We will always choose the most cost-effective approach for our customer. Q. My local dry cleaner offers a service facility for Barbour jackets. What's stopping me from going there? A. Absolutely nothing. Where the dry cleaner is an approved "Barbour service centre" then the qualities of workmanship will be to the level agreed by us. However our experience has shown that over the years sometimes the standards through unapproved centres are not to the quality expected. Please use an approved service centre or return directly to your local Barbour office. Q. How do I make a claim under your product guarantee? A. On the rare occasion that you may need to make a claim under our product guarantee then please return the product to us at your local Barbour office stating: The nature of your complaint When and where the product was purchased Your day time contact details including an email address if applicable Your full mailing address including postcode You may also take the product to the retailer from whom you purchased the product. Please also refer to our guarantees. Q. Can I reproof my Barbour wax jacket myself? A. Yes you can. Buy a tin of Barbour wax dressing at your local stockist and carefully follow the instructions on the tin. We also offer a professional service as this can be messy. Q. How often do you recommend reproofing a wax jacket? A. It all depends on the amount of use of the jacket and how it is stored. With regular everyday use we would recommend that it be reproofed every year. Q. How do I wash waterproof breathable outwear? A. Please refer to the washing instructions sewn into each garment. Generally all Barbour waterproof breathable outerwear can be machine or hand-washed at 30ºc. The use of a 'non-detergent soap' such as Nikwax Techwash is recommended for waterproof breathable garments. Fabric softeners should not be used as these prevent the durable water repellent treatment (DWR) from working effectively. The garments can be tumble dried at a low heat setting, but must be removed from the drum immediately once the machine has stopped. Q. How do I get the best performance from Barbour products? A.By following the wash/care instructions provided with each product and referring to the advice provided on this site. If the sleeves of your jacket are too long it is best to have them altered to prevent un-natural creasing and wear. Check back regularly for new questions but, please feel free to contact us at customer services with any specific requests. |
