It's a still morning at Post Time Farm in Ocala, Florida. The day before the opening of the five week winter series and I have caught myself daydreaming while watching the riders warming up their horses. I never get tired of it, and in fact that's why I am here. I am the Barbour dealer. I guess you could say it started years ago with my love of the British country life--married to an Englishman, I joined the ranks of many who aspire to living the dream either riding, hunting, or fishing. Along came a daughter and her many horses to reach the pinnacle of international competitions and a goal to one day to compete on the U.S. team. Since I was already travelling with my daughter, I decided to give up interior design and find a product to sell while travelling the horse show circuit with her. We were in England at Badminton Horse Trials and we purchased waxed cotton rain hats, which I began to import to the United States and later became the United States distributer. I first offered them for sale in an upper wing of our country home which my husband named "Toad Hall". Toad Hall was taken from the "Wind and the Willows". A story which took place in the wildwoods. Coincidence found that our home was on Wildwood Lane. We later added British Toad Hall to denote the British items we imported for sale. Several years on the show circuit selling a line of waxed products, put me in a great position, when one day while I was shopping at the Chicago Apparel mart, I came around a corner, saw the Barbour representative and said, "Can I buy that Barbour?" I knew Barbour was what I wanted to sell because Barbour is the original maker of waxed jackets, and the integrity of their products has remained unchanged sine 1894. The feature that distinguishes Barbour jackets more than any other is their legendary durability. The company with feedback from their customers has developed a unique and unmatched product I personally feel that if God supplies the talent, He will also provide the means and the faith. It is that same faith which keeps me going. It wasn't until my oldest son asked me to write this story, about how I chose Toad Hall as a business name, what Barbour means to me, and of course the reason I sell Barbour on the road, but a fourth reason has taken a position. It is about that faith, the one which is always required of you , the one you need to meet the challenges of the each day. If you choose to purchase Barbour, please consider Toad Hall. If you would like to help support my daughter Blair in her quest to make the U.S. equestrian team, your contribution is fully tax deductible through the American Horse Trials Foundation.
